Sheila Hancock receives CBE in New Years Honours List

The fabulous West End actress Sheila Hancock has been awarded a CBE for her services to drama in the 2011 New Year Honours List.

People appear on this list in recognition of their outstanding achievement and service across the UK.

Miss Hancock has enjoyed a long and successful career on the stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company, a number of sitcoms, a Carry On film and a recent West End adaptation playing Mother Superior in the Musical Sister Act.

She has also recently appeared  as a TV talent show judge on Over The Rainbow - Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for a Dorothy to star in his new musical The Wizard Of Oz.

Her reaction to the award was "It is lovely, really lovely. I’m surprised how pleased I am.'
