Tamsin Greig to star in musical version of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

Tamsin Greig will make her musical theatre debut starting in the West End premiere of David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane's musical adaptation Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown at the Playhouse Theatre.  Previews start on 20th December and the show opens on 12th January. The 20 week limited engagement will conclude on 9th May 2015

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is adapted from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's Oscar-nominated 1988 black comedy drama film of the same name which starred Antonio Banderas and Carmen Maura.

Tony Award winner Barlett Sher will direct, who was at the helm of the original Broadway production four years ago. Since then the musical has been reworked with creators Jeffrey Lance and David Yazbek to scale down the band, rewrite characters and songs, tone down sets and costumes, and simplify and restructure the book. The musical was workshopped in London with Grieg, Sher and Oscar winner Almodovar there as an observer.

The story revolves around a professional movie dubber who discovers unsavoury secrets about her married lover after he abruptly abandons her and she tries to contact him to find out why he's left. She confronts his wife and son who know nothing, while her girlfriend is afraid the police are looking for her because of her boyfriend's criminal activities. They talk to a female lawyer, who turns out to be the lover's new lover, and everyone's path keeps crossing in a very complicated and confusing manner.

The Broadway production of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown starred Sherie Rene Scott, Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Laura Benanti. It played the Belasco Theatre from  October 2010 to January 2011 and was nominated for 3 Tony Awards in 2011 - Best Original Score, and Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical (for both LuPone and Benanti).

Tamsin Greig is the star of TV series including Episodes and Green Wing and was most recently seen in the West End in Jumpy, which transferred from the Royal Court Theatre in 2012. Her other stage credits include The Little Dog Laughed.

Ronan Keating taking over lead in Once the Musical

Ronan Keating is to make his West End debut playing the lead in the musical Once at the Phoenix Theatre. The rumours about this have been around for a while and have to say I am excited about this being confirmed as I think vocally he is perfect for the part. It's just the 8 shows a week which will be a bit of a shock to his system!

Keating will be performing the role of Dublin-based street musician Guy who falls for a Czech pianist for a limited season from November 17th through to March 21st.

The Boyzone lead joked that he received a phone call from Barbara Broccoli, who produces the James Bond films and Once, ‘on her 007 number’ saying ‘I’ve been offered quite a few theatre roles in the past, but when the call came from her on her 007 phone, I had to take it seriously.’

The show has a very beautiful and moving score so it's no surprise that he has seen Once several times and on each occasion he and girlfriend Storm Uechtritz ended up crying.

Listen to Ronan singing Falling Slowly from Once with Kimberley Walsh.

Ronan Keating has a busy time before he starts rehearsals for Once with a new Boyzone Tour starting soon, his film Goddess due for UK release on 27th June and then he is due to return to Australia where he is on the judging panel for American Idol.
