Latest news on Emma Thompson Nanny McPhee Musical

Updated 13th April: Emma Thompson has confirmed to Baz that she will direct the new Nanny McPhee musical. Revealing that composer Gary Clark is writing the score for the musical, while she is doing the lyrics.

Clark is a Scottish songwriter and producer who has written and produced for a range of singers, including Natalie Imbruglia and Demi Lovato, and two years ago penned the soundtrack for John Carney's film Sing Street. Now back in Dundee after living  and working in America. He has been the front man for three groups including Danny Wilson: who found fame with Mary's Prayer in the Eighties.
Thompson told Baz she is excited and naturally nervous' about directing a musical. This time, though, she will not reprise her role as the severe-looking, black-clad nanny who wields a magic cane that makes all manner of things happen — including allowing her to materialise wherever she wants ('I did knock!'). We've just held a workshop of the first act, 'and we'll do the second act in October.
It will be at least a year or more  before a West End-bound production goes into rehearsal.

Last week  Emma Thompson was In Conversation event with fellow actors Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton at the Tricycle  in Kilburn, when she revealed a Nanny McPhee musical has passed the planning stages and is set to workshop this spring.

The multi talented Thompson played McPhee in two successful films and wrote their screenplays,
She is also writing the stage show and first mentioned it  two years ago, but the all-singing and dancing version is now moving on with early casting discussions under way and a West End run planned.  It is not known who will take the lead part but Thompson has been in  musicals including last year’s Disney remake of Beauty and the Beast and Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
