Shrek the Musical to open in London next year?

Rumours have been circulating in the West End for the past few months about the arrival of Shrek the Musical from Broadway where it premiered in December 2008 and ran (not very successfully) for just over a year. The good news is that London’s production will be based on the revamped US touring production which launches in Chicago next month.

It was originally thought the musical might come into the London Palladium, but that venue is no longer available with  Andrew Lloyd Webber's much publicised The Wizard of Oz following Sister Act there.

The current feeling now is that Shrek the Musical will come into the West End for a March 2011 opening at either the Theatre Royal Drury Lane or Palace Theatre where Oliver! and Priscilla Queen of the Desert are currently playing booking through to 26th February and 28th May 2011 respectively.

There have also been rumours that Michael Ball has been approached to play the green ogre Shrek.
