Andrew Lloyd Webber’s next search for someone to play Jesus?

Andrew Lloyd Webber was on Weekend Wogan last Sunday in a special show live from the London Palladium which is also where his new show The Wizard of Oz is opening next year.  He had Danielle Hope with him who won his BBC casting show Over the Rainbow to play the part of Dorothy.

He mentioned during the interview with Terry Wogan that the next part he would like to search for via live television was someone to play the Jesus in the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar which he wrote with Tim Rice. One of his reasons for this being that the West End is quite short of male stars compared to the number of famous musical theatre divas.

Jesus Christ Superstar was originally released as a concept album and the original London production opened in 1972 and ran for over eight years.  It last appeared in the West End at the Lyceum Theatre in 1996 where it ran for eighteen months. The show has been filmed twice. It tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus Christ.

So maybe 2011 will see a search for someone to play Jesus?

What about Joanathan Ansell, I am sure he would love to do it and he is more than capable?

Should have also said that vocally he would be great in the part. Would be nice to see him in a West End show.

Jonathan Ansell would be amazing in this part-has already played The Man in Whistle Down The Wind!
