No official casting has yet been announced, but there are strong rumours that Sierra Boggess (currently starring as Christine in Love Never Dies at the Adelphi Theatre) has been approached to play Mrs de Winter. She has already tackled the role in the second UK workshop of the musical last month.
This is the key role as the new wife which Maxim De Winter takes to his Manderley estate in Cornwall where she is taunted by the ghostly presence of the late Mrs De Winter (the glamorous Rebecca) and encounters the evil housekeeper Mrs Danvers. The music is very different ranging from choral scoring to power ballads and would be perfect for Boggess’ voice.
Her contract for Love Never Dies is set to end on March 12th, and if she takes role it would mean starting rehearsals immediately. The big fly in the ointment is that an extension of her work visa and Equity union permissions must be sorted before the American can be signed officially.
