Latest on Spider Man Musical

The cast of the ill fated musical Spider Man: Turn off the Dark were informed last night that the first reading of the new script would take place this afternoon. Apparently no cast members have yet seen the new script.

They were also told amongst the many changes that would be made to the show in the weeks ahead the much criticised “Geek Chorus” who narrate much of the show would be cut.

Arachne’s part will also be cut as the focus is tightened on to the story of Spider Man's origin, with the role of the Green Goblin being expanded. It is also likely that the show will be trimmed to 90 minutes with no interval, but the final decision on this will not be made until run-throughs of the new version begin.

Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and  Glen Berger are working on the show's new book and cast members began working on new songs by Bono and The Edge before they left New York to star the next leg of U2's world tour.

Also choreographer Chase Brock is joining the production. He is the artistic director of dance troupe The Chase Brock Experience, with Broadway credits including the 2000 revival of The Music Man, as a performer, assistant to choreographer Kathleen Marshall on Wonderful Town and assistant choreographer to Ann Reinking on The Look of Lov e.
