The international opera group Il Divo will be given the first ever Artist of the Decade award at the Classical BRIT Awards to be held at the Royal Albert Hall on May 12th. The quartet have been given the award in recognition of “the impact that they have made on classical music to a worldwide audience, creating new classical music fans and revitalising the industry for the 21st century”
The four singers who hail from Spain, Switzerland, America and France will be performing a new song at the show to celebrate the award. It will be their first live appearance in the UK since 2008. The band have sold more than 25 million albums since their debut in 2004 and are signed to the Syco label which owned by Simon Cowell.
As already mentioned, Alfie Boe will also be performing at the Awards along with past and present Les Miserables cast members including Samantha Barks and Gina Beck.
The 2011 Classical Brit Awards will be hosted by Myleene Klass and are being held at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 12th May at 19:00.
