Howard Goodall & Melvyn Bragg’s musical The Hired Man is playing at the Landor Theatre Tuesday 2nd August - Saturday 27th August 2011.
The Hired Man is an emotional love triangle taking place in the run up to the first world war. It’s the moving story of a young married couple and their struggles to earn a living off the land and to survive working in the coal-mines.
The score by Howard Goodall is inspired by the music of Kurt Weill, with English choral & folk music and a band of five musicians.
John Tallentire will be played by Joe Maxwell and Emily Tallentire will be played by Catherine Mort. Joining them are Martin Neely, Sean-Paul Jenkinson, Mark Fredrick, Abigail Matthews, Ben McMath, Ian Daniels, Garry Mannion, Matthew Gent, Kimberly Powell, Jamie Birkitt, James Parks, Matthew McLoughlin, Ruri James, Emily Barlow and Alistair Baron.
The Hired Man will be directed by Andrew Keates (Bent, Just So, Conjugal Rites), with additional orchestrations and musicals supervision by Niall Bailey and choreography by Cressida Carre, design by Freya Groves and lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Sarah Weltman and fight direction by Andrew Ashenden.
