As reported yesterday, auditions start today for the new Spice Girls Musical Viva Forever and a workshop is pending, but not under the control of award-winning director Marianne Elliott who is no longer working on the production. As also reported yesterday, The Light Princess with a score by Tori Amos which Elliott was also due to direct has been postponed indefinitely at the National.
Ms Elliott co-directed War Horse in London and on Broadway and had been signed by Mamma Mia! producer Judy Craymer to direct Viva Forever and been ‘approved’ by Geri Halliwell and other members of the Spice Girls.
Last night representatives for Craymer and Elliott declined to comment. Paul Garrington, resident director on Mamma Mia!, will now direct the Viva Forever workshop.
The musical is due to open in London’s West End next autumn.
