Sheridan Smith in new series of Jimmy McGovern's Accused

Update 15th August:  The new series 2 of Accused started last night.  Sheridan is in episode 3  which will be on BBC1 on Tuesday 28th August at 9.00 pm.

Actress and West End star Sheridan Smith is to appear alongside comedian John Bishop in BBC1’s hard-hitting drama Accused which is a new four-part series written by Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, The Street).

This is the second series of Accused written by Danny Brocklehurst (Exile, The Street) and Jimmy McGovern. Sheridan plays palliative care nurse Charlotte and begins filming this weekend with  Bishop playing a troubled father called Peter with Misfits star Robert Sheehan playing his teenage son Stephen.

The gritty drama revolves around Stephen who is convinced that the palliative care nurse who is assigned to look after his mother has a very different agenda. He becomes increasingly paranoid about the welfare of his younger brother Dom and is at odds with his father Peter. But is Stephen stricken by grief or by something else?

The series is due to be shown on BBC1 early next year.
