Update 7th June: Announcement regarding Book of Mormon West
End opening to be made tomorrow morning. Likely to open at the Prince of Wales Theatre in February next year as
casting call has gone out for rehearsals: 7th January 2013: Previews Saturday 23rd February and Press Night:
Wednesday 13th March 2013
According to the Daily Mail the deal has been done to bring the Broadway musical The Book Of Mormon to the West End opening at the Prince of Wales Theatre next March. Mamma Mia! is playing there until 1st September when it moves to the Novello Theatre re-opening on 6th September.
The intention is to cast the show here as the Mormon’s producers have always stressed that the show is the star, not the actors. I suspect that if they can't find the right actors to play the two main Mormon preachers the American leads (Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells) will be brought over.
The show has some outrageous numbers but having seen it I am not convinced the humour will travel across the Pond and work in the West End. I certainly won't be rushing to see it again, but let's hope I'm in the minority.
