West End leading man John Owen-Jones has just finished playing the lead role in the tour of the Phantom of the Opera and before that played the part in the West End around 1,400 times over the years - earning him the title of the longest running London Phantom.
He is now moving away from long runs in musicals and last night headlined his first show Unmasked - An Evening with John Owen-Jones at the Swansea Grand. The show was a sell out and his next concert is An Evening of Movies and Musicals at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh 24th November where he is joined by Ruthie Henshall and Keith Jack from Joseph accompanied by a large community choir.
He is also keen into straight acting roles and has just finished recording a new TV drama series about zombies called In The Flesh which is to be screened on BBC3 next year. It also stars The Royle Family’s Ricky Tomlinson, Kenneth Cranham and Rev star Steve Evets.
Owen-Jones said “My role is only a small one but it’s important to the setting up of the story which tells of how, after a freak occurrence re-animates thousands of dead people one night, all these zombies have to be rehabilitated back into society somehow,” adding that he’s also got a role in “a long running ITV series” also in the pipeline which he wasn’t prepared to elaborate on at the moment.
