Headlong's new musical adaptation Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel .American Psycho is rumoured to be opening at the Almeida Theatre this autumn.
The Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) has collaborated with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark script doctor) to adapt the book for the musical stage. Headlong's Rupert Goold will direct.
The 1991 novel tells the story of a businessman who is a self-possessed serial killer working on Wall Street in the 1980s. The book's graphic violence and sexual content generated a great deal of controversy before and after publication. The 2000 film adaptation starred Christian Bale.
