UPDATED 9th April: More news of dates for the Fiddler on the Roof Tour is that it will be staged at The Mayflower in Southampton from September 5th-14th prior to a UK and Ireland tour.
It will play at Edinburgh's Festival Theatre from 1st-5th October and
at the Marlowe in Canterbury from 5th-9th November with many more
venues to be confirmed.
Music and Lyrics have now announced their next production will be a new tour of Fiddler on the Roof produced by Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood.
Fiddler on the Roof was the longest running production on Broadway for over 13 years and is full of instantly recognizable songs including If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker and Sunrise Sunset.
It tells the story of Tevye (originally played by Topol) who is the local milkman in his village of Anatevka. He has always stuck by his traditions but suddenly his headstrong daughters decide that they want to marry for love rather than accept whatever Yente the Matchmaker comes up with.
Tevye loves his daughters but has to convince his wife and the villagers that their decisions are actually falling in with tradition – not any easy thing to do. Tradition is all well and good, but in the end the world moves on, as do the villagers - but maybe not for the reasons they intended.
