Updated 24th September. Phil Davis is no longer playing Oliver! at the Crucible with Tom Edden (One Man, Two Guvnors) now stepping into the role. A spokesman said Davis has had to withdraw "for family reasons". --------------------
The excellent character actor and director Phil Davis is playing Fagin in Lionel Bart's Oliver! at the Crucible Theatre Sheffield from November 29th until January 25th.
Davis has a plethora of TV and film credits which would take pages to list, but no musical theatre credits that I can find. In 1980 recorded 'Blown It' which was released on Elton John's Rocket Records.
He is currently filming Mike Leigh’s movie, Turner, about the artist J. M. W. Turner which is due for release next year with Timothy Spall playing the lead role.
The production will be directed by Daniel Evans, Sheffield's Artistic Director with more casting to be announced.
