Sharon D Clarke, Clive Rowe, Emi Wokoma and Nikki Davis-Jones Blues in the Night

Blues in the Night is being performed at the Hackney Empire on Sunday 14th July at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The powerhouse cast includes Sharon D Clarke (The Amen Corner, Ghost, Chicago, Rent,The Lion King ): Clive Rowe (The Hothouse, Kiss Me Kate, The Lady Killers):  Emi Wokoma (Soul Sister, Hairspray) and Nikki Davis-Jones (Wicked, Mamma Mia, Blood Brothers,'Rent).

Blues in the Night uses the great blues and jazz songs of the 1920s and 30s to explore the lives of three women and a saloon singer in a cheap hotel. The 26 songs celebrate Bessie Smith, Jimmy Cox, Duke Ellington, Alberta Hunter, Harold Arlen, Benny Goodman, Andy Razaf, Johnny Mercer with songs including 'When a Woman Loves a Man', 'Wasted Life Blues', 'Taking a Chance on Love', 'Lover Man' 'Kitchen Man' and the title song.

It was conceived and originally directed by Sheldon Epps. Staging will be by Frank Thompson, Musical Director is Mark Dickman, design is by Lotte Collett, with lighting by David Kidd. It was at the Donmar Warehouse in 1987 and transferred to the Piccadilly where it ran until July 1988 and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
