This week's Friday Night is Music Night celebrates the work of Roddy Doyle with music from The Commitments, Irish folk and film and classical music. Tom Ward,
Ronan Raftery and Gavin Drea from the Radio 4 plays will recreate
scenes from The Commitments.
Among
those taking part are Shane Filan from Westlife, Meav (formerly of the multi
million selling Celtic Woman), Killian Donnelly lead singer of the West End production of The Commitments the up and coming rock
band The Riptide Movement (who played The Commitments band in the new
Radio 4 adaptation) and presenter Dervla Kirwan. They will be accompanied by the 60 piece BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by
Richard Balcombe
The concert will be aired on BBC Radio 2 on Friday 13th December at 8:00pm. Roddy Doyle be guest of honour talking about his life and
work during the interval.
