Casting for Sound of Music Live! on ITV tonight

Updated 20/12 The Sound of Music Live! is scheduled to air on ITV on Sunday 20th  December from 19:30-22:05, with a Behind the Scenes documentary on  21st  December from 20:00-20:30

It stars Kara Tointon as Maria and Julian Ovendon is Captain von Trapp. Olivier award-winning actress Maria Friedman and Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc are also joining the cast. Theatre star Friedman is currently playing Elaine Carter in EastEnders, will play Mother Abbess in the live production of the popular musical.Comedian, actress and presenter Giedroyc will play Frau Schmidt.  
They will be joined by Alexander Armstrong as Max Detwieler, Katherine Kelly (Baroness Schraeder), Paul Copley (Franz), Mel Giedroyc (Frau Schmidt), David Bamber (Herr Zeller), Paul Jesson (Admiral von Schreiber), Evelyn Hoskins (Liesl von Trapp), Jon Tarcy (Rolf Gruber), Julie Atherton (Sister Margaretta), Norma Atallah (Sister Berthe) and Imelda de los Reyes (Sister Sophia) with Darren J Bennett,  Julia J Nagle Chloe Taylor and Rebecca Mckinnis

Martin Koch is musical supervisor. The television director is Richard Valentine.

The cast will also record  a version just in case anything goes wrong on the night!
