The first casting news has just broken for the new tour of Hairspray the musical which is due to open at Cardiff Millennium Centre in August.
Matt Rixon returns to the show as Edna Turnblad having played the role previously. His theatre credits include Cinderella (Richmond Theatre), Casa Valentina (Southwark Playhouse) and The Ladykillers (New Vic Theatre & UK Tour). TV credits include Tarantina Connections on Channel 4, Unique Species on Channel 5 and Henry VI Part 3 for the BBC.
Brenda Edwards returns as Motormouth Maybelle. She was a 2005 X Factor semi-finalist with theatre roles including Mama Morton in Chicago (West End), Pearl Pastor in Carmen Jones (Royal Festival Hall) and Killer Queen in We Will Rock You (West End and UK tour).
The show will be directed by Paul Kerryson with choreography by Drew McOnie, Ben Atkinson is Musical Director and Re-orchetrations, Ben Harrison is sound designer and Philip Gladwell is Lighting Designer with set design by Paul Moore and costumes by Takis.
