Samantha Barks to star in Pretty Woman musical

West End leading lady Samantha Barks has been cast as Vivian (originally played in the film by Julia Roberts) in a new musical adaptation of 1990 film Pretty Woman which Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) will direct and choreograph. 

The world premiere production opens at Chicago's Oriental Theatre on March 13th 2018 for a limited five week run before transferring to Broadway in the autumn. Joining her as Edward (Richard Gere in the film) will be Tony Award-winner Steve Kazee – best known for originating the role of Guy in Once will co-star as cynical corporate raider Edward Lewis, who hires her as an escort for his weeklong stay in Los Angeles. The show will mark the Broadway debut for Barks.

The happily-ever-after romantic comedy is about a prostitute who falls in love with a Wall Street trader who pays her to be his escort for a week features a new score by Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance, with a book by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton, the director and screenwriter of the original movie, respectively. The film was a massive hit for Disney's Touchstone Pictures, grossing $178.4 million domestically and a further $285 million in foreign.

The musical will have an original score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, with a book by Garry Marshall and the film's screenwriter JF Lawton. The
