Elf the Musical is to tour the UK, playing three major arenas with a Christmas Spectacular opening at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on 14th-16th December, before touring to Birmingham Genting Arena (20-24 December) and Nottingham Motorpoint Arena. (28-30 December).
It will star David Essex as Buddy's grumpy father Walter Hobbs and Martine McCutcheon as Jovie (Buddy's girlfriend). Also cast is Tam Ryan as Buddy, Louise English as Buddy's Stepmother Emily Hobbs, with Father Christmas and 70 performers, including children from
local Pauline Quirke Academy stage schools
The show is narrated by Santa Claus and based on the 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell, telling the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. He finds him, but like many other New Yorkers he doesn't believe in the spirit of Christmas, which is a problem, because Santa's sleigh is powered by the people's belief in Christmas.
The musical has been performed in London at the Dominion Theatre in 2015 followed by runs at Plymouth Theatre and Salford Lowry starring Ben Forster in the lead role. It was recorded live at the Lowry and shown on Channel 5 last
Christmas. This new
production will be enhanced with giant screens, showing both computer
graphic backdrops and live-action close-ups. The 5,000 seat arena layout
will have a 70-foot wide stage and a 60-foot long thrust, with some
scenes taking place around and above the audience.
Tickets go on presale at 10:00 on 8th March and on general sale on 9th March at 09:00
