Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail has announced casting news for the forthcoming production of Fun Home at London's Young Vic Theatre. As he did off and on Broadway, Sam Gold will direct the show which is scheduled to begin performances on June 18th and run to
September 1st.
Swedish actress Kaisa Hammarlund has joined the cast in the role of grown-up (large) Alison, who acts as a narrator, trying to make sense of her life revealing her relationship with her dad and mother. Two
other actors (who are yet to be cast) will portray 'small Alison' and 'medium Alison' . Joining her are Zubin Farla (West End, Jesus Christ Superstar) as her father Bruce, Jenna Russell (Tony-nominee, Sunday in the Park with George) as her mother Helen, and Cherrelle Skeet (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) will play Alison's college girlfriend, Joan.
Based on Alison Bechdel's best-selling graphic memoir, Tony Award-winning Best Musical FUN HOME, features music by Jeanine Tesori (who created the score for hit show Caroline, Or Change), book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and is about Alison at three different ages, revealing
memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family - her mother, brothers and
volatile, brilliant, enigmatic father - that connect with her in
surprising new ways. This intimate and emotional theatrical experience
is performed entirely in the round, bringing audiences closer to
Alison's story than ever before. A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Fun
Home is an original musical about seeing your
parents through grown-up eyes.
Fun Home had a history-making, 18-month run on Broadway, becoming the first Broadway show written by women to win the Best Musical Tony Award and the first Broadway musical with a lesbian protagonist.Barbara Whitman, who backed the show on Broadway, and the
Olivier-winning Sonia Friedman are bringing the
show to London.
