Louise Dearman to perform in BBC Prom On The Town conducted by John Wilson

This year’s BBC Proms will celebrate the centenary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein with performances of  On the Town this summer.

John Wilson will  conduct the performance of On the Town on what would have been the legendary composer’s 100th birthday (25th August). As part of a Bank Holiday weekend of Bernstein celebrations, the performance will feature Louise Dearman as Hildy, with Nathaniel Hackmann as Gabey, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Drew McOnie directed and choreographed a revival of the musical On The Town at Regent's Park last year. The show opened on Broadway in 1944 with music by Leonard Bernstein, book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green based on Jerome Robbins' idea for his 1944 ballet Fancy Free, which he had set to . Bernstein's music. Classic songs include New York, New York; Come Up To My Place and Some Other Time. A 1949 film version starred Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin telling the story of three American sailors who hit New York on 24-hour shore leave determined to see the sights, and meet three women.

Tickets for On the Town  go on general sale on 12th May.
