Breaking news in Variety is that Lin-Manuel Miranda will join James McAvoy, Clarke Peters and Ruth Wilson in the BBC 8 part Series His Dark Materials based on the fantasy novels written by Philip Pullman. The cast will also include Dafne Keen,Anne-Marie Duff, Ariyon Bakare, Ian Gelder, Georgina Campbell, and Will Keen.
The screen adaptation has been written by Harry Potter playwright Jack Thorne with Tom Hooper directing the first two episodes.
The series follows a young girl Lyra, played by Dafne Keen who encounters the alethiometer truth-telling device. Her adventures lead her to her uncle (James McAvoy), Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson), and the mysterious Dust. Miranda plays the role of aeronaut and adventurer Lee Scoresby who befriends Lyra.
Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema are producing for the BBC; principal photography is currently underway in Cardiff.
