Full casting has just been announced for a new production of Off-Broadway musical Striking 12, which runs at the Union Theatre from 28th November-23 December.
Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Matchgirl, the piece mixes pop, rock and jazz to tell the story of down-and-out Brendan played by Declan Bennett (Jesus Christ Superstar), whose fiancée has left him, he’s going to lose his job and his boss is making him work late. The last thing he wants to do is celebrate but then has a chance encounter with a lightbulb seller. Bronté Barbé (Beautiful) is playing The Little Match Girl.
Joining them are Danielle Kassaraté (Wildfire) as the Narrator, with Kate Robson-Stuart (Once) and Leon Scott (Othello) completing the ensemble.
Striking 12 has music by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda (from the band GrooveLily) with book and lyrics by Milburn, Vigoda and Rachel Sheinkin. It will be directed by Oliver Kaderbhai (Peter Pan), Striking 12 with design by Natalie Johnson; lighting design by Alex Lewer, musical direction by Ashley Harvey and choreography by Oliver Kaderbhai and Marah Stafford.
