The musical adaptation of Little Miss Sunshine comedy
drama is currently playing London's Arcola Theatre until 11th May before
embarking on a UK tour which kicks off at Ipswich New Wolsey on 20th May.
The musical is created by James Lapine (Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George) and William Finn
(Falsettos, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and based on the
Academy Award-winning 2006 film , following the Hoover family who have
more than a few troubles, plus young daughter Olive who has her heart
set on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest when an
invitation to compete comes out of the blue. Determined to get her
into the finals of the beauty pageant they travel from New Mexico to
California in their rickety yellow VW camper van. Can it survive the
800-mile trip – and more importantly, can they? This uplifting,
modern classic celebrates the quirks of every family, the potholes in
every road, and the power of overcoming our differences.
For the UK premere in London it will star Laura Pitt-Pulford as Sheryl, the matriarch of the eccentric Hoover family (Lucy O'Byrne for the tour), Gary Wilmot as Grandpa (the role that won Alan Arkin an Academy award) (Mark Moraghan for the tour) with Gabriel Vick as Sheryl's husband Richard, Paul Keating as Sheryl's brother Frank and Sev Keoshgerian as Sheryl's son Dwayne - all for London and the tour.
The role of Olive will be shared by Sophie Hartley Booth, Evie Gibson and Lily Mae Denman. Ian Carlyle will play Larry/Buddy, Imelda Warren-Green will play Linda/Miss California and Matthew McDonald will play Joshua Rose/Kirby for London and the tour.
