News of new Tom Jones' Musical WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?

Joe DiPietro's  new Tom Jones' Musical WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT? (the title of the Burt Bacharach number Jones had a hit with in 1965) is set to run at Leeds Playhouse from September 23rd-31st October under the direction of Luke Sheppard (& Juliet) with choreography by Arlene Phillips. set design by Jon Bausor, costume design by Gabriella Slade, musical supervision and orchestrations by Matthew Brind, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen and casting by Stuart Burt.  If it works, the plan is to transfer the show to London next year.

Adapted from Henry Fielding's The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, the musical is written  by Joe DiPietro (Memphis, All Shook Up) and features OVER 16 hit songs associated with Tom Jones including It’s Not Unusual, Green, Green Grass Of Home, Delilah and Sex Bomb.

The show tells the story of the fictional character from Henry Fielding's 1749 comic novel, "The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling." , but in the musical Tom Jones is now a '60s singer who leaves the West Country and ends up philandering and allowing himself to be seduced by an older woman as he makes his way through London society.  But the hero is truly in love with a girl back in the West Countrycalled Mary who designs clothes NS  has also made her way to London.

Last night, a spokesman for Tom  Jones confirmed that the singer is ‘currently negotiating to come aboard as a producer’.

A 2017 staged reading starred Richard Fleeshman as Tom Jones, while GAME OF THRONES' star Hannah Waddingham took on the role of an older woman who seduces him.

With plans now under way, the search for a young man in his early 20s with  extraordinary talent and confidence begins next week.

Tickets are now on sale
