West End star Ruthie Henshall (Miss Saigon, Billy Elliot, Chicago, Cats, She Loves Me) is to  star in a brand-new revival, billed as a "reimagining", of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion.

The show opened at the Queen's Theatre in London  in 1996 running for 232 performances with significant musical and script revisions,   Directed by Jeremy Sams, the cast featured Michael Ball as Giorgio, Helen Hobson as Clara, and Maria Friedman as Fosca.

This new production directed by Michael Strassen, will play at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester for 37 performances from 5th May-5th June 2022 .

Set in the 19th century, it follows soldier Giorgio who is obsessively pursued by a superior officer, Fosca played by Ruthie Henshall. Strassen intends to put Fosca at the heart of the revival, to explore the consequences of intense adoration.

The show has movement direction by Sundeep Saini, with orchestrations by Stuart Barr, musical supervision by Paul Schofield, sound design by Dan Samson, casting by Rob Kelly and musical direction by Yshani Perinpanayagam.  Ruthie Henshall in Passion | 2022 Sondheim musical revival interview
