American Idiot 10th Anniversary UK Tour announced

Following two critically acclaimed West End runs and a sell-out UK Tour, Green Day's  rock musical American Idiot is returning to mark the show's 10th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of the Grammy Award winning original album. The new tour is being presented by  Selladoor Productions producers of Flashdance, Fame, Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors. The special anniversary tour opens from 17th January 2019 at the Grove Theatre, Dunstable, with press night at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on Thursday 24th January.  Tickets go on general sale this Friday, 6th April.

Its hit songs include Boulevard of Broken Dreams, 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday and the blockbuster title track American Idiot from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release 21st Century Breakdown, and an unreleased love song, When It’s Time.

Winner of two Tony Awards® and the 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. The show features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer. This thrilling musical has had Green Day fans in rapture and introduced a generation of theatregoers to their powerful and moving musical style.

American Idiot The Musical is directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, with musical supervision by Richard Morris, sound by Chris Whybrow and lighting by Tim Deiling. The production is  presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) Limited.

American Idiot special Rock A Long Performance

The cast of Green Day's hit musical, American Idiot, will be performing a special 'Rock-A-Long' performance for one night only on Thursday 8 September 2016. Following the huge success of last year's event the audience is encouraged to 'ROCK OUT' with the cast at the Arts Theatre

With hit songs including "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "21 Guns," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," "Holiday" and the blockbuster title track "American Idiot" from Green Day's 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album, it's a great opportunity to sing along to some of the most iconic rock songs of all time.

American Idiot is currently running for a strictly limited run until 25 September 2016, following on from its critically acclaimed 2015 London run and 2016 UK Tour.

Cast Announced for Tour of American Idiot

English singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner will play Johnny joining the UK tour of American Idiot at the New Alexandra Theatre on May 10th, taking over the role from Matt Thorpe who will open the tour at Leicester Curve on 19th March.  The production is also hoping for  a return to the Arts Theatre this summer.

Following on from its hugely successful and critically acclaimed London run, Green Day's  Tony Award-winning Broadway musical opens at the Leicester Curve on March 19 and is currently running to July 2016.

As previously announced, four more of the show's original London cast will be returning for the UK tour alongside Amelia Lily (Whatsername). Alexis Gerred (Tunny), Llandyll Gove (Gerard), Lucas Rush (St Jimmy) and Steve Rushton (Will) all reprising their critically acclaimed roles.

American Idiot announces UK tour next year

Green Day's award-winning Broadway musical American Idiot starring X Factor finalist Amelia Lily, is set to tour across the UK in 2016.

American Idiot begins its  tour on  19th  March 2016 at the Curve Theatre Leicester, following on from its  West End run, at the Arts Theatre, Leicester Square which ends on  22 November 2015.

Amelia Lily (X-Factor) will be reprising her critically acclaimed role, Whatsername,  with further casting to be announced in due course.  It will be directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, with designs by Sara Perks, lighting by Tim Deiling, sound by Chris Whybrow and musical supervision by Richard Morris.

The story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world, American Idiot features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer.

Winner of two Tony Awards® and the 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009. In April 2010, the musical opened on Broadway where reviews were unanimously positive and it ran for over a year.

Its hit songs include “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track “American Idiot” from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release “21st Century Breakdown,” and an unreleased love song, “When It’s Time.”

Two month extension for American Idiot musical at the Arts

Updated 7th August:  Green Day's American Idiot has extended by two months to 22 November 2015 at the Arts Theatre. 

As already announced Green Day'saward-winning Broadway musical American Idiot opens on  17th July until 27th September at The Arts Theatre, Leicester Square, starring X factor semi-finalist Amelia Lily as Whatshername. Other casting just announced includes  Ross William Wild (Joshua), Robyn Mellor (Libby), Raquel K Jones (Extraordinary Girl), Alexis Gerred (Tunny) Aaron Sidwell (Johnny), Lucas Rush (St. Jimmy), Steve Rushton (Will),Natasha J Barnes (Heather), Luke Baker (Theo), Llandyll Gove (Gerard) and Natasha Karp (Alysha).

Green Day American Idiot Musical Tour Dates

The Tony Award winning musical American Idiot will have its UK premiere at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton next October before embarking on a short tour with the US cast which finishes at the Hammersmith Apollo in December. It is hoped a West End transfer may then be on the cards.

American Idiot features the songs of one of the influential rock band Green Day with hit songs include Boulevard of Broken Dreams, 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday and American Idiot from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy award-winning album of the same name.

It is about three disaffected young men, Johnny, Will, and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee stifling suburbia and their parents’ restrictions to look for the freedom and excitement of the city while Will stays home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend. Tunny gives up on life in the city and joins the military while Johnny finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike, has a relationship and experiences lost love.

With a book by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), who also co-directs with British Olivier winner and choreographer Steven Hoggett.
Booking opens on Friday 9th December at 10:00 am
