Bob Dylan's Girl From the North Country heading for Gielgud Theatre in December

Bob Dylan's Girl From The North Country acclaimed drama featuring songs written by him, is heading for a West End run. Written and directed by playwright Conor McPherson, it will begin previews at the Gielgud Theatre from December 10th-1st February 2020 following a run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto and prior to the Broadway production opening in March 2020. It will feature a new cast with the exception of David Ganly and Finbar Lynch, who were in previous London productions.

The new cast is Colin Bates (Gene Laine), Katie Brayben (Elizabeth Laine), Anna Jane Casey (Mrs Burke), Nicholle Cherrie (ensemble), David Ganly (Mr Burke), Steffan Harri (Elias Burke), David Haydn (ensemble), Rachel John (Mrs Neilsen), Sidney Kean (Mr Perry), Finbar Lynch (Reverend Marlowe), Donald Sage Mackay (Nick Laine), Gloria Obianyo (Marianne), Ferdy Roberts (Dr Walker), Wendy Somerville (ensemble), Gemma Sutton (Katherine Draper), Shaq Taylor (Joe Scott) and Alan Vicary, Simon Gordon, Daniel Bailey (ensemble).

This show will differ from the one that opened at the Old Vic two years ago as it is  more in keeping with the Public Theatre version transferring to Broadway in March. There might be some different Dylan numbers at the Gielgud. ‘I can never resist with so many good songs,’ McPherson said.

Full casting for West End transfer of Girl from the North Country featuring music of Bob Dylan

Full casting has just been announced for the West End transfer of Conor McPherson's play Girl from the North Country which originally opened at the Old Vic earlier this year.  The West End transfer runs at the Noel Coward Theatre from 29th December 2017 to 24th March 2018.

Joining the previously announced cast will be Finbar Lynch who will play Reverend Marlowe and Ross Dawes who will form part of the ensemble. They will be joined by Hannah Azuonye, Mary Doherty, David Ganly as Mr Burke, Adam James as Dr Walker, Karl Johnson as Mr Perry and Emmanuel Kojo.They will jointhe returning cast which includes Sheila Atim, Ciaran Hinds, Shirley Henderson, Arinze Kene, Tim McMullan and Debbie Kurup.

The piece is set Dylan's home town of Duluth, Minnesota in the midst of the Great Depression and is named after a track Dylan wrote in 1963 called Girl From The North Country. It revolves around a guest house, focusing on the family who run it.  They are a  family adrift, their future on a knife edge. Lost and lonely people drifting through rooms of their guesthouse. But Nick Laine thinks he’s seen a way out…

It includes songs spanning the five decades of Dylan’s career — featuring classics  Like A Rolling Stone, Forever Young, Make You Feel My Love and Time Out Of Mind, as well as tunes that people probably don’t have in their Dylan collections. ‘There’ll be known songs, and unknown songs. But they’re all great songs.’ The show’s instruments and arrangements will have a Thirties feel. The on-stage band will use steel guitars, harmoniums, mandolins and harmonicas.

Conor McPherson's Girl From the North Country featuring the music of Bob Dylan to transfer to the Noel Coward Theatre

Conor McPherson's Girl From the North Country, which features the music of Bob Dylan, has announced a West End transfer.

Written and directed by McPherson, the production premiered at the Old Vic in July and continues to run there until 7th October when it moves to the Noël Coward Theatre from 11th January to 31st March with previews from 29th  December 2017.

It is set Dylan's home town of Duluth, Minnesota in the midst of the Great Depression and is named after a track Dylan wrote in 1963 called Girl From The North Country.

It is set in a guest house, focusing on the family who run it.  They are a  family adrift, their future on a knife edge. Lost and lonely people drifting through rooms of their guesthouse. But Nick Laine thinks he’s seen a way out…

Playwright Conor McPherson's new play The Girl From the North Country is set to legend Bob Dylan's classic songs. It is set Dylan's home town of Duluth, Minnesota in the midst of the Great Depression and is named after a track Dylan wrote in 1963 called Girl From The North Country.

Set in a a guest house, focusing on the family who run it: starring Shirley Henderson and Ciaran Hinds, with Sam Reid and Sheila Atim as their children. They are a  family adrift, their future on a knife edge. Lost and lonely people drifting through rooms of their guesthouse. But Nick Laine thinks he’s seen a way out…
