KINKY BOOTS MUSICAL TO BE STREAMED ONLINE FOR FREE this weekend

Kinky Boots The Musical, filmed live at the Adelphi Theatre, will be streamed online as part of The Shows Must Go On! YouTube channel for free from this Friday at 7:00 pm GMT for 48 hours
 
Starring Matt Henry as Lola and Killian Donnelly as Charlie Price. With songs from Grammy and Tony award winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, book by legendary Broadway playwright Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray), the musical is based on the film written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth.
 
Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and create a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen.

Kinky Boots London being filmed for future screening

The West End production of Kinky Boots is to be filmed at the end of this  month for future worldwide screening. The original cast members Killian Donnelly and Matt Henry will return to play the roles of Charlie and Lola  from Monday 26th -Wednesday 28th November  while the filming takes place. Both actors were nominated for an Olivier Award with Matt Henry winning  Best Actor in A Musical playing Lola.

The London show will close on 12 January 2019 after more than 1400 performances at the Adelphi Theatre.  Based on Tim Firth's 2005 film of the same name, the musical first ran on Broadway in 2012 with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, book by Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell.

Kinky Boots is also currently on a major UK tour through to November 2019

Casting for new tour of Kinky Boots

Breaking news this morning is that Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail has announced initial casting for the  UK tour of the hit musical, Kinky Boots which kicks off in Northampton on 19th September.

Joel Harper-Jackson (Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar, Regent's Park) will take on the role of shoemaker Charlie Pricee opposite Paula Lane (best known as Kylie Platt from Coronation Street) as Lauren and Callum Francis as drag queen Lola (he understudied the role in London and played the lead in the Australian production ) who will launch the tour in September and continue on the road to December 15th when Kayi Ushe (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) will step into his fabulous shoes. Demitri Lampra (The Wind in the Willows) will play Don, Adam Price (Hairspray) will play George and Helen Ternent (Jersey Boys) will play Nicola.

Completing the cast is Charlie Allen, Nicola Avino, Lizzie Bea, Joshua St Clair, Connor Collins, Daniel Conway, Shaun Dalton, John Dempsey, Niki Evans, Mary Fox, Scarlet Gabriel, Damon Gould, George Grayson, Portia Harry, Joshua Lovell, Jacob McIntosh, Chileshe Mondelle, Alfie Parker, Fred Smiley, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Andy Watkins and Jason Winter.

Kinky Boots to end its run at Adelphi on 12th January

The West End production of Kinky Boots will close at the end of its current booking period on 12 January 2019 after a successful run of more than 1400 performances at the Adelphi Theatre.

The cast has just undergone a change and now  features Oliver Tompsett as Charlie Price, Natalie McQueen as Lauren and Simon-Anthony Rhoden as Lola.

There is an extensive  Kinky Boots UK tour, which will kick off at Northampton  Royal and Derngate  on 19th September.

Kinky Boots London announces cast change and extension to booking period

New casting has been announced for the West End production of Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein's Kinky Boots.

From Monday 4th June Oliver Tompsett (Guys and Dolls, We Will Rock You) will join the cast as Charlie Price, with Natalie McQueen (Wonderland, Wicked) taking over the role of Lauren.  David Hunter and Verity Rushworth will play their final performances as Charlie and Lauren on Saturday 2nd  June.

Ensemble members Sean Needham (Mamma Mia!, Wicked) and Antony Reed (Annie, Mamma Mia!) step up from the ensemble to play Don and George, joining other continuing cast members Simon-Anthony Rhoden (Lola) and Cordelia Farnworth (Nicola).

Also joining Jed Berry, Momar Diagne, Jemal Felix, Jordan Fox, Rossie Glossop, Robert Grose, Keith Higham, Ben Jennings, Robert Jones, Suzie McAdam, Emma Odell, Jon Reynolds and Tom Scanlon are Abbey Addams, Jak Allen-Anderson, Louis Clarke-Clare, Daniel Downing, David Haydn, Graham Kent, Christopher Parkinson, Hannah Price, Anna Stolli and Olivia Winterflood.

The production has also announced an extension and is now booking until Saturday 5 January 2019.

Kinky Boots set to tour next Autumn

Tony and Olivier Award-winning Best Musical, Kinky Boots, is to go  on a UK  tour appropriately starting in  Northampton from September 2018. Casting and additional dates and venues have are yet to be confirmed.

According to Baz in today's Mail the London production of Kinky Boots will continue.  It is currently booking until 8th September 2018 

With a book by four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), and songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots has won three Olivier Awards for Best New Musical, Best Costume Design and Best Actor in a Musical as well as  the London Evening Standard BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical.

Inspired by true events, the musical moves from a gentlemen's shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. With the factory's future hanging in the balance, Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father's expectations and continue the family business. Help arrives in the unlikely form of Lola, a  performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

Kinky Boots announces Cast Change and booking period extension

Kinky Boots has just announced that Simon-Anthony Rhoden will take on the role of Lola and Verity Rushworth (popular with TV viewers for her role as Donna Windsor in ITV's Emmerdale) will play  Lauren from Monday 10th July 2017.

Also joining Kinky Boots from Monday 10th July 2017 will be Jed Berry, Momar Diagne, Lauren Drew, Dale Evans, Jordan Fox, Rosie Glossop, Keith Higham, Ben Jennings, Georgia Louise, Emma Odell, Antony Reed and Tom Scanlon.

Continuing with the show are current cast members David Hunter (Charlie Price), Alan Mehdizadeh (Don), Cordelia Farnworth (Nicola), Michael Hobbs (George), Suzie McAdam, Jemal Felix, George Grayson, Robert Grose, Melissa Jacques, Robert Jones, Jane Milligan, Robin Mills, Sean Needham, Jon Reynolds and Dominic Tribuzio.

Simon-Anthony Rhoden (Lola) is currently the understudy for Lola in Kinky Boots (Adelphi Theatre). His theatre credits include Ash in Marianne (New Wimbledon Theatre); Devon in Married to the Game (Theatre 503); Man in If I Should Stay (Soho); Lance in Beauty's Legacy (The Keeper's Daughter); Jim Conley in Parade (Edinburgh Fringe). Television credits include Let it Snow, and Simon-Anthony has also appeared on film in 2 Birds and a Wrench and Blue.


Verity Rushworth (Lauren) has multiple theatre credits which include Vera Claythorne in And Then There Were None (UK tour); Velma Kelly in Chicago (Leicester Curve); Penny Lane in Carnaby Street the Musical (UK tour); Beth and Meg in Merrily We Roll Along (Theatr Clwyd); The Girl in The Seven Year Itch (Salisbury Playhouse); Grace Farrell in Annie (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Maria Rainer in The Sound of Music (UK tour); Sophie in Departure Lounge (Waterloo East); and her West End debut as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray (Shaftesbury). At the age of 12, Verity landed the role of Donna Windsor in Emmerdale (ITV), a role which she played for over 11 years. Verity recently returned to reprise her role as Donna for a dramatic and final award-winning five month stint.

Matt Henry (Lola) and Elena Skye (Lauren) will play their final performances on Saturday 8 July 2017.

Kinky Boots, which recently played its 700th performance at London's Adelphi Theatre, today also announces the opening of a new booking period until Saturday 24 March 2018, with tickets on sale from Friday 5 May 2017.

Killian Donnelly to appear in Kinky Boots on Broadway

West End leading man Killian Donnelly, is currently starring in Donegal, the new Frank McGuinness play  at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.

Next year he is Broadway bound reprising the role of Charlie which he created in Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End. He will play the same part in the Broadway production from December 6th for a limited six-month run until late May.

New casting announced for Kinky Boots

Elena Skye and David Hunter are joining the West End production of Kinky Boots to star as Lauren and Charlie from 15th August 2016.
Matt Henry has extended his contract and will continue to strut his stuff as Lola into 2017 with Cordelia Farnworth and Alan Mehdizadeh also set to join the cast as Nicola and Don.

Killian Donnelly and Matt Henry portray the central characters Charlie and Lola are joined by Amy Lennox (Lauren), Jamie Baughan (Don), Amy Ross (Nicola) and Michael Hobbs (George).

The hit musical Kinky Boots,  has today announced the opening of a new booking period, with tickets now available until Saturday 24 September 2016. Tickets for this extended period will go on sale from Monday 1 February 2016.

More casting news for Kinky Boots

West End leading man Killian  Donnelly is to star as Charlie Price in the hit Broadway musical Kinky Boots when it starts previews  at the Adelphi Theatre in August.   He will leave the musical Memphis which he is currently starring with Beverley Knight at the Shaftesbury on 4th  July to start rehearsals on the 6th with director Jerry Mitchell, book writer Harvey Fierstein and composer Cyndi Lauper. Theatre credits include The Commitments (Palace Theatre), Billy Elliot (Victoria Palace Theatre), The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre), Les Misérables (Queens Theatre), Michael Collins – A Musical Drama (Cork Opera House), The Full Monty (Olympia Theatre) and West Side Story (Solstice Theatre). Killian’s film credits include Les Misérables (Working Title). He has also appeared on television in Showbands (RTÉ) and The Last Furlong (RTÉ).

The singer-actor Matt Henry is playing drag queen Lola. He memorably auditioned for The Voice in 2013 and has theatre  credits including Avenue Q (National Tour), The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (Northampton), The Harder They Come (Theatre Royal Stratford East, Nottingham Playhouse and National Tour), The Rat Pack Live from Las Vegas, The Frontline (Shakespeare’s Globe), Hair (English Theatre Frankfurt), Saturday Night Fever (National Tour) and Miss Saigon (Cameron Mackintosh). Feature film credits include Muppets Most Wanted and Gulliver’s Travels. He  bought a pair of women’s heels from eBay and wore them when he met the Kinky Boots casting director as there is one number where Lola has to dance in skinny six-inch stilettos.Henry said¨I pitched up in heels because I have worn them before, professionally adding that between jobs he has taught models to ‘catwalk’ in heels. As Lola, I have to wear a lot of heels, and practicing helps to build up the calf muscles,’

Jamie Baughan  has appeared on stage in Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf (Southwark Playhouse), Robin Hood (Bolton Octagon), Chicago (UK and European Tour), Mirror Teeth (Finborough Theatre), Dreams of Violence (Out of Joint, Max Stafford-Clark) and Joe Orton (Phoenix Theatre). Film credits include Alice in Wonderland – Through the Looking Glass (Disney), Legend (Working Title), The Comedian (The Bureau) and Inkheart (Newline Cinema). Jamie has also appeared on television in Hollyoaks, The C Word, Casualty, The Song of Lunch, Eastenders and The Roman Mysteries.

Amy Ross  is currently playing Joyce in Sunny Afternoon at the Harold Pinter Theatre after transferring from The Hampstead Theatre. Other theatre credits include Jesus Chris Superstar (AEG Live Tour), Legally Blonde (UK Tour), Mamma Mia! (West End), Hairspray (Shaftesbury Theatre), High School Musical (UK Tour).

Michael Hobbs  has appeared on stage in Darling of the Day (Union Theatre), Radio Times (Watermill Theatre), Aladdin (Salisbury Playhouse), Who Ate All The Pies (Ladida Productions) and Johnny Johnson (Lost Musicals). Michael has also appeared on screen in A Fairytale of London Town (Mutt & Jeff Pictures) and My Week With Marilyn (Trademark Films).

Kinky Boots to arrive in London next August?

Updated 11th January: a casting call has been leaked online and  reveals that the first preview of Kinky Boots will be "on or about 21 August 2015". No venue is given.

 According to the Daily Mail, the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical Kinky Boots, is hoping to arrive in London's West End in spring 2015, possibly at the Palace Theatre.

Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels fame) will direct and choreograph Kinky Boots, which is based on the 2005 film of the same name.

The musical has a new book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage aux Folles, Newsies) and a score by Grammy and Tony Award-winning "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" hit-maker and "True Colors" songwriter Cyndi Lauper.

Kinky Boots heading for London next year

At the press launch of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels today in London, director and choreographer Jerry Mithcell has revealed that his long awaited  production of Kinky Boots will make its UK premiere in the West End some time in 2015.

Mitchell said: "We are in talks with a number of theatres at the moment. Cameron (Mackintosh) is heavily involved, having invested in the Broadway production."

The hit Broadway show won six Tony awards last year including Best Choreography for Mitchell. It has music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein,  and is adapted from the 2005 film of the same name which was inspired by a true story.

The musical is about Charlie who is a struggling British shoe factory's young owner.  He forms an unlikely partnership with drag queen Lola. In a bid to save the business Charlie plans to move away from the usual men's dress shoes they produce and instead make custom transvestite footwear for drag artists.  This is  when he and Lola discover that they are not so different after all ...
