Auction of Danny La Rue’s Costumes

London’s  Victoria & Albert Museum has purchased four costumes worn by the late Danny La Rue ahead of an auction where 90 of his costumes and gowns will be put up for sale. Danny died at the age of 81 in June last year.

Two of the costumes purchased by the V&A will be on permanent display in the museum, while the other two will feature in a forthcoming exhibition of pantomime costumes at the Museum of Childhood

Dannie La Rue’s other costumes are owned by Annie Galbraith and will be appropriately auctioned at Brick Lane Music Hall on March 12th.  La Rue was a regular there and last performed at the venue in 2007. Viewing is from 10:00. The sale starts at noon.

Items being auctioned will include pantomime costumes, gowns worn in the West End show Hello, Dolly! and frocks he wore in music hall and cabaret shows.
