Anna Nicole the Opera on its way to Royal Opera House

An opera about the late model/actress Anna Nicole Smith premieres at the Royal Opera House on February 17th 2011.

Written by Mark-Anthony Turnage and Richard Thomas (who was one of the creators of Jerry Springer The Opera),  Anna Nicole will star Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role. It is expected that the show will be directed by Richard Jones and conducted by Antonio Pappano, music director of Covent Garden.

Anna Nicole Smith was a Playboy centrefold  who died in 2007 at the age of 39 after an apparent accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

She was a striptease artist who found fame as a model and movie star,  subsequently marrying oil tycoon J Howard Marshall who was 89 years old and 63 years her senior  when they married..  He died shortly after their wedding and she became embroiled in a very public and long-running legal battle to claim a share of his estate.
