Stuart Benjamin is a music producer who worked with Ray Charles for several years and is set to bring a musical based on the entertainer’s life called "Unchain My Heart” to Broadway this autumn. .
The book is by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks and incorporates a number of Ray Charles’ tunes including "Georgia on My Mind," "Hit the Road, Jack," and the title song. It tells Charles' life story including his final recording session in 2004.
The idea for the stage show came about following the release of the film "Ray” which starred Jamie Foxx and earned two Oscars.
Unchain My Heart will have a company of about 20 actors with a 9 or 10 piece band. It will begin previews on October 8th and open November 7th at one of the theatres in the Shubert chain.
