The David Essex Musical, all the Fun of the Fair, starts previews at the Garrick Theatre on 20th April and then opens for a limited run from 28th April-5th September.
The production previously toured in 2008, but the West End show has a virtually new cast with David Essex again playing the part of funfair owner Levi Lee with Christopher Timothy (All Creatures Great and Small and Doctors), Louise English (Me and My Girl, Annie, Oliver!, Hello, Dolly!), Nicola Brazil (Hairspray, Grease, Wicked) and Michael Pickering (Wicked, High School Musical) as Levi’s son.
Described by Essex as a “play with music” All the Fun of the Fair is named after his top-selling 1975 album and tells the story of widower and funfair owner Levi Lee who struggles to come to terms with the loss of his wife while battling the attentions of a newly-divorced woman. He also has to deal with his rebellious teenage son’s tangled love life plus the gloomy predictions of a gypsy fortune-teller.
Also in the cast are: Cameron Jack, Susan Hallam-Wright, Chris Holland, Kieran Jae, Tom Kanavan, Tim Newman, Robert Rees, Emily Tierney, Tricia Adele Turner, Shona White and Danielle York.
The musical is co-written by Jon Conway and directed by David Gilmore

All the Fun of the Fair features some of David Essex’s past hits including “Winter's Tale”, “Hold Me Close”, “Gonna Make You a Star”, “Rock On”, “Silver Dream Machine” and the title song which has been adapted especially for the show. A new soundtrack will be re-released by Universal in April to coincide with the West End opening.
