Kylie Minogue is keen to write a musical about her life and is working on the project with her close friend William Baker who was also the director of a West End revival of the musical Rent and produced, directed a TV documentary about the star called White Diamond. He has acted as Miss Minogue’s stylist and creative director on a number of her tours.
The ‘Kylie’ musical currently has no title and the actress/singer who will play Kylie has not been decided - but it will not be her.
The musical will not tell the story of the star’s rise to fame but is about the interpretation of her music. Her first release I Should Be So Lucky went to No1 in January 1988 and since then she has notched up 32 Top Ten hits in the UK. Her new album Aphrodite, is due out in July
She is not the first pop star to turn their career into a musical with Mamma Mia! featuring Abba’s hits, being the most successful. It is not a musical biography of the Swedish band but features their songs through a love story on a Greek island.
