Ricky Martin & Elena Roger to star in Broadway’s Evita

It has just been announced that Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Evita will open on Broadway in the spring of 2012 at a Nederlander Theatre to be announced. The production will star Ricky Martin as Ché and Elena Roger as Evita, who will make her Broadway debut reprising her award winning performance from the 2006 production at London’s Adelphi Theatre.

Olivier Award winning director Michael Grandage (the Donmar’s artistic director) and Tony Award winner Broadway choreographer Rob Ashford will return to work on the production. This is the first new Broadway production of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted on Broadway more than 30 years ago.

There is not a production of the musical currently running in the West End, but there is an international tour of Evita which ends in December.

You can see Elena Roger in London later this year as she is playing Fosca in Stephen Sondeim’s Passion which is due to open at the  Donmar Warehouse. on 10th September.

Ricky Martin made his Broadway debut as Marius in the original production of Les Misérables, with his pop career beginning with his spectacular performance of La Copa de la Vida ("The Cup of Life") at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards. He has been a recording artist for over 20 years and has sold over 55 million albums and performed to sold-out stadium and arena audiences throughout the world.
Additional creative team members and casting will be announced at a later date.
