The musical Wicked has now taken more than £100 million at the box office since opening at the London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre in 2006. It has played more than 1,500 performances in London and currently stars Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker as the witches Glinda and Elphaba and Lee Mead as Fiyero.
Earlier this year Wicked won the Audience Award at the Oliviers, but when it opened in 2006 to mixed reviews it received four nominations which failed to convert into wins. The producers say the success of the show is based on “word of mouth” from theatregoers who have enjoyed the show.
