David Essex is currently starring in his own musical All the Fun of the Fair at the Garrick Theatre. But before it transferred into London’s West End the musical was on tour and it was then that Essex met the actress he got engaged to at Christmas.
He met Susan Hallam-Wright (pictured) who was playing the part of Mary who is the girlfriend of the son of fairground owner Levi played by Essex. She is reprising this role in the West End production.
David Essex sent women into a frenzy in his Seventies heyday when he was cast as the lead in the West End hit Godspell. But he’s proved he’s very much a silver fox (turns 63 this month) as Hallam-Wright will be wife number three, although there is no date set for the wedding.

Susan Hallam-Wright played the part of Sally in the musical tour, not Mary.
It is believed David Essex met his fiancee before All the Fun of The Fair hit the road in 2008.
Thanks for that. I didn't manage to see the tour and must have misread her biog notes from the West End production (which I really enjoyed) and assumed she played the same role!
It is believed David had been in a relationship for some time before and the reason she got a part in 'All the Fun of the Fair' was due to being his girlfriend
Nepotism does tend to rule in the entertainment industry. But whether that's the case or not she's very good in the part and it keeps Mr Essex happy!
