Full casting for Drowsy Chaperone

As previously mentioned, The Drowsy Chaperone is returning to London making its fringe debut at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate Village. It previews there from September 23rd, prior to an official opening on September 28th running through to October 31st.

The cast has now been announced and Siobhan McCarthy (Mamma Mia, Evita and Hairspray) stars as the tipsy chaperone. Michael Howe (Footloose, Chess and Grease) plays Aldolpho the bumbling Latin lothario; Ashley Day (High School Musical, Evita and Mary Poppins) is the  groom Robert; Amy Diamond (finalist in BBC’s Over The Rainbow) as the starlet-turned-bride Janet Van De Graaff; and Matthew Lloyd Davies (Chicago and The Lion King) plays the eccentric Man in the Chair.

The Drowsy Chaperone is the tale of the Man in the Chair who is a modern day Broadway musical theatre anorak. To keep his spirits up he plays his favourite LP which is the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. The musical comes to life in his dingy apartment, which is transformed into an impressive Broadway set with seashell footlights, sparkling furniture, painted backdrops, and glitzy costumes.

The story unfolds with pampered Broadway starlet Janet trying to give up showbiz to get married to an oil tycoon and her producer's attempts to sabotage the wedding. All sorts of antics follow with her chaperone, groom, dizzy chorus girl, Latin lover and a pair of gangsters masquerading as pastry chefs.

The rest of the cast includes: Gavin Keenan (George), Graham Lappin (Mr. Feldzeig), Ursula Mohan (Mrs. Tottendale), Jo Parsons and Giovanni Spano (the Gangsters), John Rawnsley (Underling) and Tanya Robb (Kitty).
