The musical Chicago is currently playing at the Cambridge Theatre and was taking bookings to 29th January 2012. But this has now changed and you can only book up until 27th August 2011, with tickets for the RSC hit musical Matilda going on sale this Saturday for October previews and a November opening at the Cambridge.
As already mentioned, Roald Dahl’s Matilda needs the central aisle and the understage space which the Cambridge Theatre can provide and the Aldwych (which was originally mooted) is lacking.
As I have not heard of any closing notices being posted for Chicago, it is more likely that it will transfer to another theatre like the Aldwych. This also ties in with new cast members Jonathan Wilkes and Debbie Kurup only being contracted until 26th June.
The producers of Chicago said today they "are hopeful the show's record breaking 14-year run in the West End will continue". Further details along with new casting for the show will be announced shortly.
