20th Century Boy is a new musical which celebrates the life of Marc Bolan and his band T Rex. It runs at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich from 8th September-1st October with a tour and West End transfer anticipated.
Marc Bolan has been described as a rocker, poet, electric warrior, king of glam and godfather of punk. Before his tragic death in 1977 - just a few weeks before his 30th birthday - Bolan had a string of number one hits and an army of obsessive fans. This new musical looks behind the glitter and sequins to discover what drove his ambition and life at break neck speed. It features 27 songs from Bolan's back catalogue which includes Bang a Gong (Get It On), Children of the Revolution, Hot Love, Ride a White Swan, Metal Guru and 20th Century Boy.
George Maguire leads an 11-strong cast as Bolan. He was one of the original Billys in Billy Elliot, and recently appeared in the musical Thrill Me about murderers Leopold and Loeb. Also in the cast are Jenna Lee James, Donna Hines (Gloria), Craig Storrod (Rolan Bolan), Greg Barnett (Tony Visconti), Katie Bernstein (Helen Shapiro), Peter Manchester (Simon Napier-Bell) and Matthew Ashcroft (Steve Took).
