Sierra Boggess confirmed to play Rebecca on Broadway

As previously blogged, Sierra Boggess will play the leading role of “I” in the new musical adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca.  It has just been announced that it is previewing at the Broadhurst Theatre from March 27th 2012 (opens 22nd April). Further casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

It is jointly directed by Michael Blakemore and Francesca Zambello and has an original book and lyrics by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard) and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze. Graciela Daniele will create the musical staging for the Broadway production.

The show premiered in Vienna in 2006 and has played in Budapest, Hungary; Bucharest, Romania; Helsinki, Finland, Stuttgart, Germany; St Gallen, Switzerland and Tokyo. It was hoping to open in London’s West End but a suitable theatre which could accommodate the set could not be found. An NYC reading of the show, starring Boggess, Hugh Panaro and Carolee Carmello took place in March of this year
