According to Baz Bamigboye in today's Mail, actor, writer and director ANDY NYMAN has been cast in the lead role of Tevye the dairyman and father of five daughters who wants to keep his way of life as everything changes around him in Fiddler on the Roof which is the Chocolate Factory's Christmas Production.
Nyman is an best known as co-creator of the long-running horror stage-play Ghost Stories (2017), The Commuter action thriller (2018) and Death at a Funeral British ensemble black comedy film directed by Frank Oz (2007). His theatre credits include Abigail's Party as Lawrence, Hangmen as Syd and Sondheim and Weidman's Assassins at the Menier playing Charles Guiteau (2014-2015)
Nyman met with Sheldon Harnick, who wrote
Fiddler’s lyrics and said, “Don’t play it for laughs. Play it
straight”. The actor said doing Fiddler would be ‘an extraordinary
opportunity’, especially as his great-grandparents fled Lithuania
and went through some of the ordeals fictional Tevye and his family
endured. And he said that despite having a smaller family he felt close to his character.
