Hairspray the Musical is heading out on a UK tour next year kicking off in Manchester in September, with further details of venues, dates and casting to follow shortly. The tour will extend into 2021 and follows two extremely successful tours in 2015/16 and 2017/18.
The musical is based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Divine and
Ricki Lake. It originally opened in 2002 on Broadway and won
eight Tony Awards. It is directed by Paul Kerryson, choreographed by Drew McOnie, with lighting from Philip Gladwell and sound from Ben Harrison.
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's piece is set in Baltimore in 1962, where Tracy Turnblad wants to dance her way onto national TV.
