Breaking news from Baz in the Mail this morning is that the hit musical Hairspray will return to the West End with Michael Ball set to reprise his role as Edna Turnblad.
The production will have an initial 12 week run at the London Coliseum starting April 23rd, 2020 .
The show's original creative team, including director Jack O'Brien, choreographer Jerry Mitchell and producer Adam Spiegel will reunite for the production.
Hairspray originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 winning eight Tony Awards. It subsequently opened in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 starring Michael Ball and and won four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical.
Hairspray is also embarking on a new UK tour starting in September 2020.
