Rufus Sewell joins Tom Hanks in cast of Baz Luhrmann's movie biopic on Elvis

It has just been announced that British actor Rufus Sewell has joined the cast of the currently untitled biopic of Elvis Presley being directed by Baz Luhrmann. He will play Elvis Presley's father Verenon alongside Austin Butler as Elvis, Tom Hanks as Elvis' manager Colonel Tom  Parker,  Olivia DeJonge  (The Visit, The Society)  as  Priscilla Presley who was his wife from 1967 to 1973 with Maggie Gyllenhaal as Elvis' mother Gladys.

Production started in late January in Queensland, Australia, with Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby) directing from a script he co-wrote with Sam Bromell (The Get Down), Kelly Marcel (Venom) and Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!).  The Warner Bros musical biopic will follow Presley's rise to fame, and his complex and unusual relationship with his manager Colonel Parker which spanned over 20 years. Warner Bros. has set an October 1, 2021 release date

Sewell was most recently seen on the big screen in the much nominated movie Judy starring RenĂ©e Zellweger, playing Judy Garland's third husband Sidney Luft. He  is currently on Sunday night ITV starring in the mini-series of Agatha Christie's 1961 novel The Pale Horse
