Peter Polycarpou - Laugh and Be Happy at Hippodrome Casino

Peter Polycarpou is currently turning in a great performance as Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd at the Adelphi Theatre. He has extensive theatre credits including Miss Saigon, Les Misérables , The Phantom of the Opera , Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Secret Garden, The Woods and Love Story.

Peter is directing and starring in his own retrospective of Randy Newman’s work at London's Hippodrome Casino on Sunday 26th August at 8:00 pm.

Laugh And Be Happy has eight principal performers who will sing solo and group arrangements by Peter Polycarpou, with musical arrangements by Steve Edis and musical direction by Robert Emery.

Numbers include You've Got a Friend In Me, Same Girl, When She Loved Me, Strange Things, Glory Train, Feels Like Home, Short People, Simon Smith and his Amazing Dancing Bear and Mama Told Me Not To Come.

The guest artists are Josafina Gabrielle, Rebecca Trehearn, Clive Rowe, Nick Holder and  Leila Benn Harris with principal soloists Bex Hinds, Maisey Bawden, Mimi Edwards, Jasmine Gur, Marcus Ayton, Dan Fraser, Jackie-Ross Lavender, Rob Houchen and company members Scarlett Baxter and Benn Llewellyn

Guests at Peter Polycarpou Concert

The Chichester Festival Theatre has just announced their winter programme which includes a concert by Peter Polycarpou and guests entitled Laugh And Be Happy.

In the Minerva Theatre on Thursday 27th October at 11:00 pm they will perform the songs and music of Randy Newman including Feels Like Home, Toy Story’s You’ve Got A Friend In Me and music from Ragtime, James and the Giant Peach and Faust under the Musical Direction of Steve Edis

Peter Polycarpou brought the house down recently at the Dress Circle Benefit with his rendition of Bui Doi from Miss Saigon.  He appeared at the Festival last year in  Love Story which transferred into the West End.

UPDATE 1st October: The guests have just been announced for this concert and they include Lucy May Barker. James McConville, Simeon Truby, Emma Williams, Jos Slovick, Beverly Klein, Rebecca Trehearn, Shimi Goodman, Tyrone Huntley and members of the Sweeney Todd Ensemble.

UPDATE 24th October: Hannah Waddingham is now making a guest appearance at this concert.

Other theatre credits include Thenardier in Les Misérables, John in Miss Saigon, Oklahoma! at the National and he will be playing Beadle Bamford (Judge Turpin's henchman) in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd with Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton in the Festival Theatre later this year.  He is well remembered on television playing Chris Theodopolopodos (Pauline Quirke’s crooked husband)  in BBC’s Birds of a Feather

All proceeds from this event will be split between The Lord’s Taverners’ and UK Thallasaemia Society.

Peter Polycarpou cast in Love Story at Duchess

Peter Polycarpou will be reprising the role of Phil (Jenny’s father) which he played at Chichester in the new musical Love Story when it starts previewing at the Duchess Theatre on 27th November (opening night 6th December)

Peter has a long list of theatre credits which include Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Gash in Last Easter (Birmingham Rep), Ibrahim in Artefacts (Brits Off Broadway NYC and Bush Theatre), Daniel Warshowsky in Imagine This (Plymouth Theatre Royal and New London Theatre), Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, Aaron in Titus Andronicus, Neville Craven in The Secret Garden, Thenardier in Les Miserables (RSC), The Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium), Ali Hakim in Oklahoma! (National Theatre and Lyceum) and John in Miss Saigon at Drury Lane). 

He also appeared in the long running series Birds as a Feather playing Pauline Quirke’s hapless husband Chris Theodopolopodos.

Other casting to date is Emma Williams as Jenny who made her West End debut as Truly Scrumptious in the original cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Michael Xavier as Oliver Barratt  (Festival 09’s Oklahoma! and Spamalot).  Both of these actors also played these roles earlier in the year at Chichester.

Peter Polycarpou to lead Love Story the Musical at Chichester Festival

Love Story is a brand new musical based on the film of the same name which was one of the most romantic movies of all time.

It is playing in the Minerva Studio during  the Chichester Festival from 29th May-26th June.

Oliver Barrett IV went to Harvard and Jenny Cavilleri to Radcliffe. He was rich, she was poor. He was sporty, she played music. But they fell in love and this is their story.

Peter Polycarpou is playing Jenny's father, Phil.  He has an enormous list of theatre credits which include Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Gash in Last Easter (Birmingham Rep), Ibrahim in Artefacts (Brits Off Broadway NYC and Bush Theatre), Daniel Warshowsky in Imagine This (Plymouth Theatre Royal and New London Theatre), Title role in The Phantom of the Opera (Really Useful Company), Aaron in Titus Andronicus, Neville Craven in The Secret Garden and Thenardier in Les Miserables (RSC), The Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium), Ali Hakim in Oklahoma! (National Theatre and Lyceum) and John in Miss Saigon at Drury Lane).

The original book is by Erich Segal but the Chichester production has music by Howard Goodall, book and lyrics by Stephen Clark with additional lyrics by Howard Goodall.
