The new touring production of Les Miserables will open at London's Barbican Theatre on 14th September and run until 22nd October. It is being staged as part of the celebration of the show's 25th anniversary. This is the first time that two productions of the same musical are playing in London.
Les Miserables premiered at the Barbican on October 8th 1985 and ran for only 22 performances after opening to scathing reviews.
The touring production of Les Miserables opened in Cardiff last December and has gone on to break box-office records in Manchester, Norwich and Birmingham. Future dates in Edinburgh, Paris, Bristol, Salford and Southampton are also almost sold-out. It stars John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean (he previously played the role in the West End), Earl Carpenter as Javert and Gareth Gates as Marius. A live cast recording of this production is due for release after Easter.
